Rick’s Latest Listicle: Top 10 Things I Don’t Have Time for as an Older Person

    By Rick Rose
LGBTSr contributor and co-host of The Twist Podcast

A new listicle for the listicle-minded! Top 10 things I don’t have time for as an older person. These are in no particular order, as they all annoy me equally.  See how many you agree with!

    1. Arguing with people. As you get older, you learn that it’s not worth your time to argue with people. You’ve got better things to do with your energy.  Screw their senseless logic.
    2. Waiting in line. This just isn’t due to my mobility issues as much as my ever thinning threshold of patience. I do like self check out for this reason and you better believe I get a feel for the folks who are using self check to make sure they have sharper skills than the check out folks.
    3. Roller coasters. These days, roller coasters are just too much for some older adults. Right?   The speed, the heights, and the G-forces that I wanted more and more of are now just too much to handle.  Been there, done that…and glad I did!

    By Rick Rose

The Miss America pageant is known for its beauty, poise, and talent. But sometimes, the talents that contestants showcase can be a little bit strange or at least very memorable. While I am friends with 6 Miss America’s, their talents weren’t nearly as fun as these. Here are 10 of the strangest talents that have ever been performed at Miss America. I wonder what this year’s contestants are rehearsing over the next couple months leading up to the crowning of Miss America 2024.

Rick’s Latest Listicle: Mer-Facts About Mermaids and Mermen

    By Rick Rose

My best friend Leanza Cornett created and performed as the first Little Mermaid at Disney World, FL before she was crowned Miss America 1993. Recently, the live action version of the movie was released with Melissa McCarthy brilliantly playing Urusla. So here are my top 6 interesting facts about mermaids and their male counterparts.

    6)  The tourism board in Kiryat Yam offered a million dollars for a photo of a real mermaid. Something strange began happening in this seaside town in Israel in 2009 when one person than dozens of others reported seeing the same astonishing sight: a mermaid frolicking in the waves near the shore. Still no million has been given away.

    5)  How did this funny talk of man/fish begin? Scientists think that human-sized ocean animals like manatees could be the foundation of the mermaid myth. Manatees are definitely strange and mysterious creatures, and they could easily be mistaken for mermaids by someone who doesn’t know what they are. Right?

As a single man, another Valentine’s Day came and went this year.  But terms of endearment aren’t just for lovers and partners. I use them all the time on my friends.  I got great practice living in Louisiana. In the South, affection and respect are expressed abundantly. They can be used in a variety of contexts, from everyday conversation to more romantic gestures.

Here are my favorite Top 5 Terms of Endearment.

    5 Sweetheart or Sweets

The word “sweetheart” originated in the 13th century as a combination of the words “sweet” and “heart.” In the Middle Ages, the heart was seen as the seat of emotion, so calling someone your “sweetheart” was a way of saying that they were dear to you.
