About Angelica Herrera Venson, DrPH, MPH
Angelica Herrera Venson, DrPH, MPH is a gerontologist born in San Diego and raised on both sides of the U.S-Mexico border. She’s a public health advocate who has spent two decades in community health work and research investigating how immigrant and racial /ethnic minority family caregivers and seniors navigate old age and seek out health and elder care. Today, Angelica supports some of Arizona’s community health centers, which serve primarily Medicaid and underserved communities, in their transition to value-based care.
She was on faculty at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County after completing several post-doctoral fellowships; including the Health and Aging Policy Fellowship in Washington D.C., a National Institute of Mental Health fellowship at the Stein Institute for Research on Aging at the University of California, San Diego, and the Kellogg Health Scholars program at MD Anderson Cancer Center, undertaking research on family caregiving, depression, and diabetes care in vulnerable communities. In 2014, she established Kapok Aging and Caregiver Resource as a trusted resource for America’s diverse pool of caregivers. Angelica lives in Arizona with her husband and daughter, and enjoys traveling abroad, hiking, and sci-fi movies.
