Grace Anne Stevens: Of Thee I Dream (Poetry)

Grace Anne Stevens

Of Thee I Dream

My country used to be
The home of Liberty
Of this I sing

Land where our dreams come true
For me and each of you
These days I feel so blue,
It makes me scream!

Has hate become the curse?
To turn the best to worst
Now must we freedom nurse?
That’s what it seems.

It’s wrong to separate
It’s not what makes us great.
Is this our nation’s fate?
My tears now stream.

Our lives our sacred fact
That no one dare redact
Each one of us, now must act
Of this I dream.
